In the ISL residential program, training and support services are tailored to an individual’s identified needs. Services and training are provided in the individual’s home and in the community, allowing functional skills to develop in real-life settings. The program’s flexibility allows for individuals with even the most severe developmental disabilities to learn new skills and become active members of the community. Group homes provide individuals with developmental disabilities and their housemates with 24-hour per day support services in a family-type atmosphere. Individuals participate and learn new skills in all areas of daily living in an environment which promotes good health, personal growth and community inclusion. The Pulaski County Group home has 8 individuals (male and female) and the ISL has currently 4 women that reside in a home. The Pulaski County Group home continues to provide an excellent service to their residents and surpass all state and federal regulations. Go for a visit, they love the company!
This year some of the residents were interviewed about what they liked most about living in the ISL and Group Home and working at the Workshop and this is what they had to say:
“Favorite thing about living here is not having to share a bedroom with someone who is a dog-gone pain in the butt”
“Like living here and having new housemates and new staff and getting to know them and what they do for us, their love for us and the love for their work.”
“I like having staff that is funny and outgoing and loyal and kind and caring and like doing things for me.”
“I like that I have someone to take me places and someone that knows about my history more than anyone.”
“My favorite thing to do is to go to the park and animal shelter and play with the dogs. As long as they don’t bite.”
“Working here is fun and I get to see my friends and laugh a lot.”
“I like shopping at Walmart and my staff take me when I ask.”
“I have worked here a long time and don’t want that to change, I like having a bus pick me up and take me home too.”
